Enhancing Youth Economic Opportunities with Local Systems: A Locally Driven, Collective action Model

Sharon Adhiambo, a passionate gender equality advocate and researcher, leads programs at WISE KENYA, focusing on empowering rural women and girls through sustainable enterprises and leadership development. She champions their inclusion in decision-making and skills development to bridge the urban-rural divide. Sharon’s work in the Lake region has fostered leadership among girls, using technology to address climate change and amplify their voices. She played a key role in creating the EGEM mentoring lab at Maseno University, aiding female students’ transition to the workforce. As a member of the Kisumu ICON, Sharon values research for data-driven solutions and holistic system change. She is also part of the Kisumu County Gender Sector Working Group, advocating for gender-responsive policies.
