Reflections from Multi-Stakeholder Youth Employment Alliances: Unpacking Successes, Bottlenecks, and Looking Ahead

Urmila Sarkar, the Deputy Director, Programmes, UNICEF Generation Unlimited, brings 23 years of experience in international development, education, and employment sectors. As the former Regional Chief of Education for UNICEF South Asia (2014-2019), she oversaw an annual portfolio of approximately US$ 100 million and provided technical support to 130 professional staff. Her passion for civic engagement began in Canada, where she founded ‘Youth Week’ to promote youth volunteerism. She also played a pivotal role in organizing the Global March Against Child Labour, culminating in the drafting of the Convention on the Worst Forms of Child Labour at the ILO Geneva in 1998. She has a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from The Fletcher School at Tufts University and a Bachelor of Arts (High Distinction) from the University of Toronto.
